Saturday mornings are my favorite. It’s typically just me and Piper because it’s Blake busiest day at the resort. We wake up slowly, watch cartoons, and shuffle around in our pajamas. I love to make a big breakfast on Saturdays since we’re typically rushing out the door most of the week and there’s no time for things like pancakes. Then I’ll read magazines with a pup in my lap while Piper dances around the living room. Saturdays are magical.
I’ve always thought to myself “I wish I could bottle up Saturday mornings with Piper and revisit that feeling any time of the week.”
Lifestyles photoshoots are something I’ve admired from afar for a long time. Seeing families in their natural element without posing or forcing anything – there’s just something so pure and real about them.
When I discovered Melissa McKinney Photography through a friend, I knew Melissa was absolutely going to be the one that could nail a lifestyle shoot for me. Her style is so whimsical, yet authentic. She has an eye that captures so much beauty in even the most ordinary situation – like a Saturday morning lounging around the house.
From the moment Melissa walked in the door, it was like I was just having a girlfriend over for coffee. The vibe was totally relaxed while we chatted about home decor and our kiddos.
Piper is insanely shy. It takes her quite some time to warm up to people and she becomes incredibly clingy when she’s nervous.
But that’s the thing about lifestyle photoshoots. Piper didn’t have to pretend she wasn’t shy. Nobody forced her to sit and pose and smile. Melissa snapped away as Piper latched herself to my leg while I got breakfast started.
Melissa knew how to get her to loosen up. She asked Piper if she could take pictures of her favorite “Brown Puppy.” That was the ticket right there.
Piper loves to “help” me cook breakfast. She asks thousands of questions and insists on cracking the eggs.
Another perk of lifestyle photoshoots? You don’t have to know that Piper cracked this very egg directly onto my foot/the floor.
French toast has been our go-to lately because it’s fairly easy and these girls love their weekend carbohydrates.
Okay, I’m mildly obsessed with this one.
Let’s talk about the fact that I absolutely do NOT look like this on Saturday mornings. In fact, I usually look so frightening that I wouldn’t subject anyone to that sight. Ya girl has a strict “no makeup” rule on weekends.
Again, that’s what makes this kind of photoshoot desirable – it’s real life. Only far more glamorous if you so choose.
Y’all know I’m a sucker for a good iced coffee photo.
Piper’s little personality really began to shine as the shoot went on. And these stunning photos are only half of what Melissa was able to capture on this Saturday morning. I can’t wait to share the shots of our adventures in the backyard and snuggling in mommy and daddy’s “big bed.”
Come back for more very soon! And don’t forget to lurk Melissa’s website because I know you’re thinking that you need to get in on this magic too!
