It’s easy to lose sight of the important things during Hallmark-hijacked holidays like Mother’s Day. Everyone worries about buying Mom a diamond heart necklace, pretty spring flowers, or overpriced arranged chocolate fruit. When it comes down to it, Moms just want to be appreciated. Acknowledged. Loved.
We thought we would take this day to celebrate the different kinds of moms in our lives. Moms don’t fit into one single mold. Every mother is unique, and we want to give a shout out to just a few of those lovely ladies.
(Fun holiday drinking game: take a sip every time we say “mom.”)
Working moms. Those moms that juggle mom duties and job duties with aplomb (most of the time), and still manage to squeeze in some snuggle time. [Kim with Sarah & Mary]
Stay-at-home moms. The brave souls that have to drink their morning coffee in the bathroom just to get a few fleeting moments to themselves. [Caitlin with Jameson and soon, Savannah]
“Empty Nest” moms. Those moms that have to love their children from afar, crossing their fingers that all their momming took full effect and the kids venturing out into the real world are right and ready for it. [Carol with Jake & Jack]
Moms of multiples. Those moms that tackle more than one toddler at once. More than one diaper at once. More than one tantrum at once. More than one glass of wine at once. [Amanda with Hayden, Blake, & Reese]
Playful moms. Those moms that all kids gravitate to because they’re up for anything and everything. They’re the face-painted moms, the toenail-painting, bounce-house-jumping, hide-and-seek-playing, “let’s go to Miss Kacey’s house because she’s more fun” moms! What? Nothing. [Kacey with Addie & Triton]
“Surrogate” moms. Those moms that didn’t give birth to you, but love you like their own. No pain, all gain. [Mitzie with two weird chicks]
Moms who have lost. Arguably the toughest mom of all. Empty arms most certainly do not mean an empty heart. [Brantley with Brayden]
Moms-in-law. The ladies who accept you into their own families with loving arms, and help you double your recipe book. [Sheila with Mark & Blake; DeAnna with Judd]
Step-moms. Those moms that nervously step into your life at first, but eventually plunge into your weird antics without a second thought. These mamas don’t have to love you, but they do anyway. [Joan with her extremely good-looking step-daughters]
New moms. The rookie who learns something new every day. She’s the courageous one that’s walking into Publix at 7:00 am smelling of spit-up and lack of sleep. [Sydney with Piper]
Bossy moms. The moms who always seem to have their sh*t together and their kids perfectly in line. She has a tough exterior, but we know she whips out the late night ice cream and snuggles when no one is looking. [Roban with Emma & Sophia]
Our mom, Jan. Need we say more? [with Gumbo, Syd, Billy & Ra]
And moms of moms. Whom we always remember with love. [BB with Mom]
Now, a toast. “Here’s to good women: may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.” Cheers, Mamas. You are appreciated more than you know.
