When Sydney and I get weary of everyday life, we escape to our dad & step-mom’s house in Palm Beach, Florida where we’re pampered with endless food and champagne. It’s rough. So rough, in fact, that we refer to their house as Lush Lagoon.
This last visit was to kick off summer with our little chicklets and celebrate my 21×2 birthday (you do the math).
The drive from Pensacola takes us about ten hours (or five repeats of Moana, if you’re counting in toddler time), so we’re usually not presentable unit late afternoon the day after we arrive.
One of our family’s favorite restaurants in Palm Beach Gardens is Carmine’s La Trattoria. The food is excellent no matter what you order.
We’re a very talented bunch.
Leave it to Sydney to order something that requires a bib at a fancy restaurant.
After dinner we went home to enjoy a Chantilly cake from Publix and a bottle of champagne – my kind of birthday celebration!
Birthday kisses are the best kisses.
The next morning it took a little while for the sun to wake up (and the champagne hangover to subside), so we snuggled up in our pajamas watching cartoons and eating leftover cake.
But when the sun did finally come out to play, we all jumped in the pool for some fun.
There did come a point when we had to dress ourselves up again and eat more cake.
We ended the day with a heated game of Cards Against Humanity with our beloved Kirby.
The next day we got right back in the pool, this time with our friends, Reg & Deb and their granddaughters, Annie & Rosie.
Wanting to squeeze every last drop out of our time with Dad, we refused to get out of the pool until late on our last night.
Life at Dad & Joan’s is always a little sweeter, like a sundae with an extra cherry on top. And served with bubbly champagne.
