Sydney & I are the queens of the weekend road trip. We’ll pop out of town on Friday after work and be back in time for work on Monday. And with Pensacola having so many great cities within a half-day’s driving distance, we’re never short of places to go.
Our latest adventure was to Atlanta.
I wish I could say our interests were solely in giving my children a new life experience. But to be honest, there was an attractive celebrity making a public appearance, and Sydney and I were all too keen to make the trip.
Our first stop after checking in at the Omni Hotel was the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest at the Georgia World Congress Center just next door. And thank goodness it was so close because Atlanta decided it was a good weekend for their first frost. We Floridians were COLD!
My chicklets got to meet Robbie Amell (pictured) and Rick Cosnett from their favorite TV show The Flash.
But most importantly, Sydney & I got to meet Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones and Aquaman. Hubba hubba. So tall. So muscled. So tattooed. 😉
Two great things happened when we met Mighty Momoa: 1) he loved Sophia so much, that Sydney had to exclaim “but what about ME?” to get his attention, and 2) as we’re parting ways, my precocious Emma told him “we brought our cleats so we could climb you.” I love those girls.
Dinner was whatever we could find nearby the hotel before we froze to death in our short-sleeved shirts and cotton sweaters, but dessert – DESSERT – was room service in our cozy 24th floor hotel room wearing warm fluffy robes while recounting our brief but humorous celebrity encounters of the day.
On Sunday, we strolled over to World of Coca-Cola for a tour and some tepid taste tests. If any of us were actually Coke drinkers, it probably would have been more fun, but we had a great time as it was.
When in Atlanta, drink Coke.
One of my favorite parts of the weekend was all the incredible fall foliage we saw along the way. Neither one of my children has seen so much color in the trees.
Of course, we frolicked. Like we do everywhere we go.
Our next adventure is booked, but we’re keeping it under wraps for a little longer because it’s a big one. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy our close-to-home getaways to the fullest.
